Top ACC honor to Ryan
Matt Ryan proved the voters who selected him as the ACC Preseason Player of the Year knew what they were doing. After leading his team to a 10-2 regular season and a berth in Saturday’s ACC championship game, the Boston College quarterback followed through and was named the conference’s Player of the Year yesterday.
“It’s very flattering. It’s a great honor,” Matt Ryan said. “There are a ton of great players in the ACC and to be presented with this award is special, but I really think it’s a testament to what we’ve done as a team. We’ve had so many people step up and I think everyone shares in it.”
Among his many achievements, Matt Ryan set the single-season touchdown pass record at BC with 28 and also holds the school’s career completions mark with 752.
Tribble practices
DeJuan Tribble practiced yesterday, a positive step toward his goal of playing in the title game after spraining his right MCL two weeks ago. After running and cutting on his own on Tuesday, Tribble said he was a little sore but that there was no swelling in the joint.
“It would be nice to have him back for his leadership, but if he can’t make it back, the other guys are going to have to step up,” BC coach Jeff Jagodzinski said. . . .
According to BC spokesman Chris Cameron, the victim in the alleged assault by running back A.J. Brooks was not a residential assistant but a visitor to campus with no official ties to the school. Cameron said an RA did witness the incident, for which Brooks has been indefinitely suspended from the team. . . .
Jo-Lonn Dunbar said the high ankle sprain he’s been playing through the last couple of weeks felt just “OK.” Was there anything that would keep him from playing on Saturday?
“A body bag,” the linebacker said.
